If you are new to online check-in then you may want to read some of my notes, first!

Above all, never, ever, ever check in anywhere, anyhow other than for the flight you are about to take. No matter what - UNLESS you are 150% certain that nothing will possibly ever change. You would not believe how complicated life can become if you check in for the return flight (thinking you are saving time) and then find you need to change it. Trust me.

Air France Internet check-in allows you to choose your seat and print out your boarding pass anytime from 30 hours prior to the departure of your flight except for Mauritius, Lebanon, Hungary and Delhi where this is 24 hours.

You can check-in online whether you are traveling with or without baggage and for a for a direct flight or a transfer but if you have a transfer, only one boarding pass will be issued for the whole of your trip. You can check in for your return flight, if this is within 24 hours of your departure (but see my notes above) - This service is offered on all flights except La Navette shuttle flights. You can also check in for a different flight from the one you reserved, if your fare tariff allows this.  Online is available for yourself and all passengers (up to 9 in total) who appear on your reservation file.

When you have your boarding pass, If you have baggage, check this in at the "e-service - baggage drop-off" counter at the airport before the Check-in Deadline for your flight.- If you are traveling without baggage, you can go directly to the boarding gate before the Time Limit for Boarding printed on your boarding pass  - 15 minutes prior to flight departure, between Paris-Orly and short-haul destinations, 20 minutes prior to flight departure, between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and short-or medium-haul destinations and 40 minutes prior to flight departure, on long-haul destinations.

Travelling with a baby...

Babies must always be accompanied by an autonomous passenger over 18 years of age. (Only the father, mother or guardian can be under 18 years of age.) Each passenger can accompany only one baby. A second personal attendant is required when traveling with a second baby. Remember to specify that you are travelling with a baby when making your reservation in order to take advantage of Planète Bleue services.

On all flights of over 2.5 hours, meals composed of pureed snacks and biscuits are prepared for your baby. You simply need to order this when making your reservation at least 24 hours prior to departure. For the comfort of your baby, skycots are at your disposal in the l'Espace Affaires cabin on medium-haul flights and in l'Espace Affaires, Alizé and Tempo cabins on long-haul flights. Since the number of skycots is limited, remember to reserve one when making your reservation. Skycots can accommodate babies measuring up to 70 cm and weighing up to 10 kg. On long-haul flights, baby changing facilities are available and Planète Bleue gifts are given to your baby to brighten the trip. (For the baby, I presume, not for Mum and Dad)

Air France advise against traveling in the 7 days following the birth of your baby. Children under 2 years of age do not have an individual seat, and they travel on your laps. However, you can request a baby seat, as long as you pay a child fare. Children under 2 years of age not traveling in an individual seat can take advantage of a specific 10 kg baggage allowance, to which can be added a folding stroller, a cushion or a car seat, whichever the destination. On long haul flights excluding the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, folding umbrella-strollers (maximum size when folded: 15 x 30 x 100 cm) may be accepted in the cabin, though in limited numbers

Spatially Challenged Flyers...... (but interesting info. anyway...)

The aisle width on Air France aircraft is 43 cm (17 inches). The width of the onboard seats is: 40 to 43 cm (16-17 inches) in the Tempo and Alizé cabins (which corresponds to a waist measurement of 135 cm or 53 inches), 47 cm (18.5 inches) in l'Espace Affaires medium-haul business class cabins, (which corresponds to a waist measurement of 149 cm or 59 inches) and 50 to 53 cm (20-21 inches) in l'Espace Première first class and l'Espace Affaires long-haul business class cabins, (which corresponds to a waist measurement of 200 cm or 79 inches).

If your waist measurement exceeds this, you must reserve an additional seat. Air France will offer you a discount of 25% if you purchase an additional seat and 33% in certain cases on long haul flights. If you are traveling in l'Espace Affaires business class on a medium-haul flight, for technical reasons, you will not be able to reserve an additional seat. In this case, you are advised to reserve two adjacent seats in the Tempo (cattle) cabin.

BUT - If the flight is full and you have not reserved an additional seat, you WILL not be allowed to board if your build does not permit you to sit comfortably in a single seat. So you have a choice, fit in, buy another seat or fly with someone else...... DO NOT TRY IT ON - Air France are very strict about this.

Children can travel unaccompanied from the age of 4 on domestic flights within Continental and Overseas France and from the age of 5 on international flights. Planète Bleue covers unaccompanied children and young people, from 4 to 17 years of age, for trips anywhere in the world. With Planète Bleue, children are looked after for the duration of their trip. A badge enables them to be identified easily, and ensures they are accompanied from check-in through to arrival, where they are meet by the people you designate. If their transfert is longer than 2 hours, they can access the Planète Bleue areas in Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports. There is a charge for children aged 12 to 17. The Air France UMNR service is really rather good, having had to make use of it myself.

Unaccompanied Minors (UMNR)

Voyageur Rewards - if you travel regularly on Air France and are a business traveller, your company can sign up for this. It is a sort of "frequent flyer" card for your P.A. , whereby your back up troops can also have the opportunity for a few free flights. As it boils down to "something for nothing" it is well worth signing up for. Ask your travel agent.
